I've been slacking on the social media presence for the Black Dahlias books, and I can't promise I'll do any better due to how busy I am. 😞😞

Regardless, I'd like to officially post and announce that I will be presenting my book at the library in Blaak, Rotterdam this friday! Hopefully this opportunity will help me grow my book's reputation and help me reach new readers. I plan to use this feat to help convince book stores to sell copies of my books, regardless of the fact that it is self published! I can't express how grateful I am.

I'd also like to say I wouldn't be able to do this if not for the help of some of my very talented friends, who helped me get in contact with people at the library, and helped me to make the flyer and poster design for the event! It is thanks to them that we're getting somewhere :)

Day 4/4: Neyoma Aje, the main character of the series, and her trusty companion Quetz!

Neyoma, vibrant and energetic, is quite vocal about her desires. She's been stuck for a few years and now wishes to find her purpose. Setting out to sea and escaping from her circumstances, she enthusiastically throws herself at every situation that arises, hoping to find something that makes her heart stir!
Her snake Quetz is more mysterious. Often hiding away around her neck, disguised as a red scarf. Neyoma has no clue what Quetz is or why he's stuck by her side, but his silence on the subject has forced her into accepting the circumstances. Nonetheless, she'll always remain curious.

I chose to write a female protagonist because I think we need one more than ever. A fair share of modern media, especially movies and series, attribute a woman's strength to the fact that their main character is just that, a woman. This narrative undermines women's individuality, all their beautiful traits and characteristics, and also the very struggles that women overcome as people. It reduces them to being a product of their gender instead of being a person with strengths, flaws, life experiences, failures, and successes.
Moreover, by making a character that shallow, it removes the chance for the audience to truly admire and relate to them. I want people to look at Neyoma and be inspired. I want them to be able to laugh at her, laugh with her, cry for her, and cheer for her. I want them to be in awe. Not because of what she is, but because of who she is!

Neyoma has become like a daughter to me, who I've poured my heart and soul into raising into a character I truly admire. I hope that her free spirited and happy go lucky approach to life inspires all of you!

Day 3/4: Wu
••••••

Wu, as is probably more than apparent to anyone, is heavily inspired by Wu-Kong. Albeit in looks and name alone. This Simian, the first type of sentient we see that isn't human, is nothing like the original Wu-Kong. It quickly becomes obvious that Wu is an insecure coward, whose greatest strength hides in running away rather than braving a challenge. Yet despite this weakness, Wu is forced by our main character to set out and face his demons. This sets him on an arduous path to face the parts of himself that he's ashamed of.

In hindsight, I do regret using such a well known character and only giving him my own twist. I could have been a lot more creative and create a more unique character. With this in mind, I already have plans for how Wu's appearance, and maybe even his name, might change as the Black Dahlias series goes on!
At this moment, I'm already scheming up many details for the second book's World building and story. In fact, if you pay enough attention while reading Suit of Diamonds, you might be able to guess how Wu's appearance might change from the second book onward!

Day 2/4: Ishir Kumari 🎨🪄🥀
••••••

Ishir, also known as Suhana's little painter, is an active member of Phedika's adventurer's guild. With tai that gives him the unique ability to create spells with paint, he's made quite a reputation within his home continent. He's helped countless people and earned their trust and respect.

Ishir, like many others in Phedika, stands vividly against the atrocities being committed up North. He believes in freedom and creativity, and trains harder than any other to get to a point where he can make a change. As such, he earns his rightful place as a friend at our main character's side!

Will Ishir's effort pay off, or are some realities too large to change within one person's lifetime?

Day 1: Indra Kumari 📚💅🏼🧠

Indra's homeland, as you can probably tell from her outfit, takes inspiration from India! After all, I used inspiration from many Asian countries and cultures to create the continent of Phedika!

Indra is the youngest of the once infamous slum siblings. After being adopted into the adventurer's guild, she managed to gain a good reputation with many locals. Despite this, the story quickly makes it apparent that Indra has some severe personal issues. Her emotions can turn into violent outbursts, as if possessed by evil spirits. These strange transformations cause her to attack those around her, and fill her heart with the worry that she might hurt those she loves.

Will Indra figure out the root of her problems? Will she find a way to deal with them? Only time can tell what the world has in store for her!
